Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s knights played Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when expelled by the English, the French headed down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was acquired from the term for the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
