Be clever, play brilliant, and pickup craps the right way!
Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s soldiers enjoyed Hazard during a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the English, the French relocated down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and throughout the nation. A good many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he developed the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
