Be cunning, play smart, and pickup craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s horsemen enjoyed Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French relocated down south and found refuge in southern Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is derived from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. Many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the current craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he invented the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
