Be cunning, play smart, and master craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French moved down south and located refuge in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is derived from the name of the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the current craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Later, he invented the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
