Be brilliant, play smart, and master craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps developed from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the English, the French headed south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and across the country. A good many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
