Be brilliant, play smart, and master craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps formed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the English, the French headed south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. A good many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he invented the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
