Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps developed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French moved down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair.
