The background of Craps dates back to a dice game referred to as Hazard, which goes all the way back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in 1813. Hazard is believed to be a by-product of Azzahr, meaning ‘the die’ a game played by Arabs.
The game developed as it spread out from the Arab regions to Europe and then to the UK. By the early 18th century, formal established rules for Hazard had been developed. France adopted the British version of Hazard and is believed to have been imported to the new world by early French colonists. In the mid-Eighteenth century, when the British defeated the French in Canada, the French settlers relocated to Louisiana. Dice were played on river boats, clubs and wharfs and a streamlined ‘American’ variation of Craps was developed. The game headed west and is a favored game that is competed in all over the U.S. and throughout the world.
The name ‘Craps’ is believed to be a French articulation of the term crabs, which means two ones. There are 2 general kinds of Craps that are played-street Craps and bank Craps. Street caps, aptly called since it is gambled on the streets is where a shooter sets a point and then tries to acquire that point. The betting is made either for or against the shooter and somebody has to cover the wager for the dice game to go on.
In casino Craps, which is the familiar game, competed in in casinos, the betting house backs the game. The gamblers wager with the casino-the house covers all of the wagers of all of the players. Craps was a quite loved casino game but in the last twenty years had split itself and other games, like poker and twenty-one became more well-loved. However, Craps is seeing a surge in popularity once again in net betting houses and in brink and mortar betting houses.
